Safety measures at Dubai International Airport are being beefed up with all passengers, who are requested not to carry any sharp objects in their hand baggage, following the attacks that slammed the US earlier this month.

The Dubai-based Khaleej Times quoted an official statement as saying that items such as nail files, scissors of any size, pocket knives, items with sharp edges, toy guns, cutlery and any other sharp items are not allowed to be carried on flight and will be confiscated by the airport security, if found in hand baggage.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group, was quoted as saying that "passenger and airline safety is most important to us.

While these measures are being put in to ensure greater security, it is also to assure our customers that we are taking all precautions for their safety. We need our passengers to comply with the request and help us to provide them with a high standard of service."

Passengers are requested to contact respective airlines for an update on hand baggage regulations, the statement added – Albawaba.com
