In a move that could have radical implications for used car dealers, Dubai has banned people from displaying their cars for sale in public car parks and along roads, reported the Gulf News.
The order banning the display of vehicles for sale or rent in public car parks was issued by Deputy Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The local order adds to a previous municipality order, which banned car showrooms and rental firms from using public car parks to advertise their vehicles, said the paper.
Now, individuals cannot use public parking lots, which include open parking grounds, roadside parking, open areas and paved or unpaved lots belonging to public establishments.
The order clarifies that the ban is applicable to both paid and free parking lots.
Another order relating to a new definition of public transport vehicles was also issued by Sheikh Hamdan, who is also minister of finance.
According to the order, the term 'public transport vehicles' mentioned in Article Two of Local Order No 8 of 2000 has been amended to read: "The land and marine coaches meant for transporting passengers inside the emirate for a fixed fare." – Albawaba.com
