Grundfos, a Danish water pump manufacturer and distributor with regional headquarters in the UAE, will begin meeting Libya’s growing demand for a modern water-supply system this year following opportunities discovered at a trade fair for UAE businesses.
The Middle East & North Africa division of the international organisation which attended the ‘UAE in Libya’ event in November, has moved key engineering staff from Saudi Arabia to Egypt in order to manage the new levels of work being generated by Libyan developments.
“We’re extremely excited about the over-whelming level of interest from Libyan companies over the last month,” said Altaf Jasnaik, marketing assistant for Grundfos. “And we look forward to expanding our business significantly in the North African region as a result.”
Grundfos believes the government-led event was an effective launch-pad because it took place at a key time in the modernisation of the country’s infrastructure.
“With the sanctions placed on Libya having recently been lifted, Grundfos seized the opportunity to participate in the trade fair,” confirmed Jasnaik. “The opportunities for suppliers and manufacturers across both agricultural and construction sectors are at an all time high.”
The exhibition, organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority helped companies like Grundfos raise the profile of their Middle East-based businesses which connect branches in Europe, America and Asia to the developing North Africa region.
“Before the event the Libyan market was largely unaware of our strategically advantageous presence in the UAE and also our expertise in fields of water supply for construction, irrigation and farming,” said Jasnaik. “Now we will dramatically increase the amount of products we distribute to the re-emerging country and expect the value of business to rise substantially.”
Project managed by Streamline Marketing Group, ‘UAE in Libya’ involved UAE-based businesses meeting with key decision-makers, Libyan officials and foreign diplomats. Over 130 companies were represented including training and educational facilities, food manufacturers, healthcare and medical centres and hotel suppliers.
“We’re extremely pleased for the companies who’ve come away from Tripoli having secured key business in Libya,” said Laith Kubba, managing director, Streamline Marketing Group. “We look forward to facilitating an even more fruitful event next year.”
‘UAE in Libya’ was supported by Emirates as official carrier and backed by the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce and the Tripoli International Fairgrounds Authority.
