More than 120 performers from various countries are preparing to transform Dubai’s streets and malls into places of festivity through the Dubai Carnivals during DSF 2010. With only days left for the Festival to begin, the performers aim to create a festive mood throughout the city with spectacular performances by jugglers, stilt walkers, unicyclists and musicians.

From the city’s massive malls to its busy streets, Dubai Carnivals’ performers provide a dazzling display of artistry and skills, as well as funny antics to shoppers and revelers.

The performers - from Poland, India, Italy, Hungary, Egypt, England, Canada, Slovakia, and the USA - will hit the streets and other outdoor venues during Fridays and Saturdays as well as participating malls on Thursdays, turning the whole city into a huge carnival.

On weekdays, the whole cast will be divided into distinct groups and will bring their delightful show in various parts of the city – from Rigga in Deira and Al Seef street in Bur Dubai to The Walk at JBR and other select locations.

The Carnival entourage will be preceded by four live bands – Dixieland on roller skates, marching band, percussion group and the traditional Tannoura group – to liven up the parade with their music and catch the attention of shoppers inside the malls, or the public when the show hits the streets.

Besides the jugglers, stilt walkers, unicyclists and musicians, the Carnival will also have 16 new characters, whose costumes are patterned after the shopping bag logo of DSF, as well as majorettes, acrobats and mimes all dressed up in colourful costumes, including incredible light costumes that will provide a fresh visual treat to those who will watch the parade.

“Wherever one is in Dubai, they will have a taste and feel of the festive mood during DSF. We’ve taken the carnival concept and opened it up to the streets, bringing the fun, excitement and vibrant atmosphere closer to our residents and visiting guests,” said Yousif Mubarak, COO, Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment.

With the performers themselves coming from different cultures and nationalities, the whole show is itself a showcase of cultural convergence, appealing very strongly to Dubai’s equally diverse population. Mubarak said, “The resulting fusion of various cultural influences adds excitement and appeal to the celebrations, which capture the essence of DSF – One World. One Family. One Festival.”

More than 150 international and regional events are expected to be showcased during the 15th edition of DSF which will be held over 32 days from January 28 to February 28. For a more detailed schedule of events, entertainment and shopping offers, visit www.mydsf.ae.
