Dubai Customs launches the mobile laboratory for the detection of hazardous materials
The Operations and Technical Support Department at Dubai Customs has inaugurated the Customs mobile laboratory for the detection of the suspected materials and substances.
The inauguration of the mobile laboratory comes as part of the strategy which aims at using the technology for security reasons and facilitating the goods' inspection in all locations, in addition to fulfilling all Customs centers' needs and developing them by offering logistic support through man and technical power and acquiring exceptional experiences in order to help the inspection team protecting the society and serving citizens throughout the year.
The laboratory consists of a big van containing a number of high-technology devices that perform meticulous experiments on suspected materials which could be illegal. The purpose of having those devices is to develop the inspectors' ability to detect drugs, bombs, chemicals and radiant substances as well as to give accurate information on the nature of those substances for a proper diagnosis.
This laboratory includes four modern devices designed in accordance with the latest international specifications among which "Hazmat" device that can detect 60 thousand substances by taking a sample out of the suspected ones and conducting the necessary analysis on them. The devices include as well the "ion scan" device which detects bombs as well as drugs and scans the small atoms in cases where inspectors are not allowed to touch the suspected parcels for security reasons, and another device for the detection of radiant substances from afar. In addition to that, the laboratory is equipped with a camera that monitors all the inspection's activities.
According to Mr. Mohamad Mousabbeh Bin Dahi, Senior Manager - Operations and Technical Support Department, this mobile laboratory is expected to perform many tasks in relation to Customs work at Dubai Customs in order to consolidate the social and economic security level of the emirate. Mousabbeh added:" this van includes the latest and most advanced security devices that deal with the detection of suspected materials and confirms the leading role we play towards achieving Customs strategic goals in order to fulfill all Customs centers needs on one hand and use the best human resources at work on the other hand.
