Starting from Saturday the 1st of July and till the 31stof July, Dubai Customs Department will be receiving the secondary school and university trainee students taking part in the summer training program. The students will be distributed among the different posts, sections and administrations of Dubai Customs, so as to give them the opportunity to learn about the nature of the Customs’ work and the manner of dealing with its trading partners such as commercial companies and shipping and clearing agents. The Department is trying each year to benefit from and build upon the experience gained from the summer training programs conducted in the previous years, with the aim of improving and achieving the contemplated future goals.

Younes Ibrahim Younes, the Training & Development Director at Dubai Customs, said, “Over the past years the department has been able to accumulate valuable experience in the field of summer training which allowed it to develop its training programs and put into practice its belief in the importance of investing in the national human resources which are the most valuable asset for real development and modernization. Based on that, the training program for this summer is designed to prepare the students for their future practical life, develop their skills and capabilities and familiarize them with the aspects of our work and the other works associated therewith.”

“Given the importance of the summer training programs, which are in our opinion the best way for students to benefit from the summer vacation, the Training & Development Administration of the Dubai Customs has prepared a guidebook, addressed to the customs supervisors and the trainee students, that outlines the rights and obligations of the trainees and describes the course of the training period and the conditions for joining it,” he added.

One of the most important aims of summer training is giving students the opportunity of gaining experience and applying the scientific and academic knowledge to practical life, so as to prepare them for serving the society, shouldering responsibilities, observing punctuality and making use of their free time in a way that is socially, culturally and professionally beneficial. The training period will help in anchoring the principles of scientific and practical thinking, the planning and organizational skills and the positive behavioral attitudes such as team spirit, shouldering of responsibility and discharge of duties. Moreover, the trainees will familiarize themselves with the customs working environment and the role played by the Dubai Customs in the society in general and in the national economy in particular.

Younes explained that there is a general criterion for assessing the performance of the trainees this year, such as their cooperation with their superiors and colleagues, the respect of the functional system, and punctuality with regard to working hours. He added that the Department is keen to encourage creative initiatives such as suggestions and projects by the trainees through the different activities included in the summer training program which is mainly designed for students of UAE nationality.
