Dubai Defense Minister Orders Establishment of Charity Council

Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defense Minister General Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum has ordered the formation of a council to coordinate the activities of all the charity associations, committees and organizations in Dubai.  

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was quoted by the Gulf News as saying that “the council's role will be supervisory and will not interfere with the activities of organizations. It will help them achieve their objectives."  

According to a press release issued by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, "the final goal is to achieve the humanitarian objectives of these agencies."  

"We will not interfere in the creation of the council and you will be responsible for selecting its members. I know you are qualified and competent to carry out [your] responsibility. We have high confidence in you," Shaikh Mohammed told the volunteers, said the Khaleej Times.  

The crown prince hailed the efforts of the charity associations and their ongoing activities, which he said had helped many people.  

He pointed to the important role of Islamic charities in promoting the values of Islam and in highlighting the teachings of this tolerant religion.  

The crown prince urged charity organizations to engage in more humanitarian activities to serve the people in dire need of such services.  

Meanwhile, Mohammed Al Naboodah, a UAE businessman,donated Dh500,000 to support Afghan refugees. 

This was in response to the appeal of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation for funds for the refugees. 

Members of the public have been urged to donate money directly or through the Dubai Islamic Bank in order to meet the needs of an expected one million refugees –
