Dubai eGovernment has awarded prizes to the first group of winners in the Modhesh website creation competition organised as part of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), 2005. Aisha Al Nuaimi won a laptop as first prize,  while the other winners received personal computers and home theatre systems at an award ceremony held recently.

The website creation competition, sponsored by HumanSoft, is being held in two phases over a period of five weeks each, with three winners in each phase. A joint committee from DSS and Dubai eGovernment is responsible for adjudicating the winners of the competition.

Aisha Al Nuaimi won the first place for the Best Idea, Content and Own Drawings; Mushin Sathar, the second place winner for Best Graphics and Abdulla Manzoor, the third place winner for Best Navigation and Photos. The Modesh Website Creation Competition attracted a large number of participants in the age group of 15-19, from Dubai and neighbouring emirates.

“The quality of entries received for the web design contest was truly remarkable considering that they were created by children. It demonstrates the enormous talent and potential of these youngsters,” said Abdul Nasser Ahli, eServices Provisioning Officer, Dubai eGovernment. “This contest gave an excellent opportunity to the young web designers to exhibit their creativity and design. Dubai eGovernment is keen on spreading awareness about the benefits of electronic services among children and other sections of the society by undertaking a series of initiatives in this regard. Through our participation in DSS, we will create more involvement from the public to try out the various eServices available on our portal www.dubai.ae.”

Besides the website creation competition, Dubai eGovernment is involved in organising events such as, ‘Modhesh Friends Forum’, ‘Playstation Zone’ and ‘Net Games Zone’, during DSS.

The concept of the Dubai Summer Surprises was introduced in the summer of 1998 by the Dubai Government in order to promote the emirate as an ideal family holiday destination and is currently held under the directives of H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister.

Dubai eGovernment is a pioneering initiative in the region to provide online services across the spectrum of corporate and community life in the emirate. It also has a vision to integrate

individually automated government departments under the single umbrella of the eGovernment initiative, thus empowering employees across lines of businesses and levels of government, besides facilitating the lives of citizens and customers of the government. Dubai has taken a lead in the region in deploying eGovernment applications and is among the first few governments in the world to provide such integrated services to its citizens. The eGovernment portal (www.dubai.ae) is a single contact point masking the complexity of the bureaucratic procedures, and guiding access to all services in the easiest possible way. In addition, the eGovernment initiative seeks to improve and enhance procedures by maximizing the benefit from technology, so that users from all walks of life will be able to utilize the portal for their specific needs with considerable ease.
