Motherhood and childhood workers need a theoretical and practical center, which will teach them basic skills and knowledge in implementing the 10 steps of breastfeeding, according to Dr. Afra Bin Zaal, Director of Preventative Medicine in Dubai.
Dr. Bin Zaal has recently conducted a 3-day breastfeeding training course for health professionals at Dubai's Preventative Medicine Department, according to Khaleej Times.
An estimated 85 doctors and nurses from all over the UAE attended the opening day, exceeding course organizers, Dr. Latifa Al Awadhi and Wafa Ahmad Abu Ali's initial expectations.
Dr. Afra said the 18-hour course would teach the 10 basic steps of breastfeeding, to achieve the program’s objective that "hospitals be friends to children." She added that mothers should breastfeed their children from birth to six months, and continue with other foods until the child is aged two.
"This session alone cannot make changes at hospitals, however it can build a common base on the main factors of dealing with breastfeeding among physicians, midwives."
Dr. Afra mentioned that the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) was a global network of organizations and individuals that strongly believed that breastfeeding was the right of all children and mothers. WABA is committed and dedicated to protecting, promoting and supporting this right. (Albawaba.com)
