The UAE has extradited to India a 50-year-old Indian wanted on charges of murder, extortion and illegal possession of explosives and firearms, police said Thursday.
Muthappa Rai, detained in Dubai for violating immigration laws in mid-May, was flown to India overnight, accompanied by two Bangalore police inspectors.
Gulf News quoted Karnataka state police director general V.V. Bhaskar as saying Rai, who has been linked to Bombay underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was Bangalore's most wanted criminal.
"This is a very important step in curbing multi-national and international crimes," Indian Ambassador K.C. Singh told the Gulf daily. (Albawaba.com)
