Dubai Ladies Club, a member of Dubai Women Establishment, in collaboration with Department of Health & Medical Services & Emirates Medical Association, has organised a two-day fundraising event on 22nd and 23rd October from 16:00 to 22:00 to raise vital funds for breast cancer patients and cancer research programs within the UAE.
Eman Al Mansoori, Events Manager of Dubai Ladies Club said: “We are pleased to organise the second annual Think Pink event. Through this initiative we intend to raise funds to advance awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research, all with a focus on the medically underserved. Dubai Ladies Club welcomes members and extends a warm invitation to non-members to take part and experience the various activities that will be offered during the day.”
There are two main ways to get involved:
Think Pink Bazaar:
Dubai Ladies Club will host a special two-day bazaar where guests can purchase unique handmade jewellery, home decorative items, clothing, breast cancer pink ribbon items and gifts of hope, love, and friendship. Interested vendors can book a booth for two days for AED1,500 only. The full rental fees will be donated to charity.
High Tea on the Beach:
On Thursday, 22nd October, 2009, Dubai Ladies Club will host a fun-filled tea party on our ladies-only private beach. Guests will enjoy finger foods and cold and hot beverages. The evening’s programme will include a variety of activities such as “a presentation on UAE Breast Cancer Statistics”, "Every Bite Counts (nutrition advice and cookery demonstration)" and "Relaxation with Yoga" along with a dessert bar, appetizers, and flavoured teas. The ladies-only event is open members and non-members with complimentary food and beverage. Moreover, guests are invited to contribute to the fundraiser through the donation boxes located across the club
Latest governments statistics show, Breast Cancer is the most common cancers in the U.A.E. for national and non-national women and the second cause of death accounting for 28 percent of all female deaths in the UAE. With a mortality rate of 44 percent, due to late diagnosis, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UAE and the leading cause of deaths amongst female malignant diseases.
In an effort to counter this notable high incidence, money raised from donations and from leasing bazaar booths will be donated through Emirates Medical Association, towards local breast cancer programs and services, research, advocacy, and promotion of early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
