The Statistics Center of Dubai Municipality has worked out a strategy for statistics in the emirate, a report said.
Arif Obaid Al Muheiri, director of the center was quoted by the Gulf News as saying that the strategy deals with gathering data and meeting the needs of local departments.
The center, which was established under the directives of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has become a sole source of data and statistical information about the emirates, covering all aspects of life.
It is a data bank that holds a potential source of information about various local departments and Dubai government authorities, companies, ministries and federal institutions.
Al Muheiri added that the center discusses and coordinates with all local departments to set up a mechanism for cooperation and methodology to meet requirements, said the paper.
According to the Dubai-based paper, the center is planning to build a statistical base in Dubai, including data about population, and social and economic statistics concerning all industrial and tourist activities.
Al Muheiri stressed that the center would be restructured with organizational and administrative units being set up. The center, since its establishment 10 years ago, has been the sole body to work out comprehensive statistical projects in Dubai.
“The center has become the body responsible for the general census of population and housing. It conducts economic and social surveys.
“The center also provides consultancy and defines concepts applied by local government departments and the Ministry of Planning. It also undertakes publishing the annual statistical book for the emirate,” he said – Albawaba.com
