The Dubai Press Club has agreed to replace the old mechanism for deciding the winners of the Arab Press Award with a referendum system for all categories except the prizes for best scoop and best documentary work, the UAE News Agency (WAM) reported.
The old system was based on a jury.
The decision came at a meeting in Dubai earlier this week of the award’s board of directors, which consists of a number of experts and officials from Arab countries.
Contests for this year will be run for the best channel in political coverage including news, dialogue and analytical programs in addition to the field studies and reports and documentaries.
Arab sports channels will also compete for the category’s prize, said the agency.
Prizes will be handed out for the talk show (between 45-90 minutes) on any of he current conditions related to the Arab issues and interests. This is in addition to prizes for the best news bulletin, best anchor, best correspondent and best scoop. Contests also will be run for the best documentary work provided that it does not exceed 30 minutes with original shots related to the work.
The value of each prize category amounts to $15,000, and this year’s best TV figure will be awarded $50,000 -- Albawaba.com
