The Dubai Public Prosecution Department launched Monday, the e-signature authentication system, thereby dispensing with the need to save official documents in hard copy form, reports said.
According to Khaleej Times, the multi-layered electronic authentication system verifies the identity of each user who logs on to the prosecution's integrated computer network.
Dubai Attorney General, Ibrahim Bu Melha, issued Monday the application instructions for electronic signatures, as the electronic documents will from now on replace hand-written and hard copy documents.
Whenever a signature is required by law on any prosecution document electronic signatures will be used and considered equal to hand written signatures under law, the daily added.
The full implementation of the new e-signature authentication system followed a ten-day trial period during which the new system was tested at the workstations of four public prosecutors and assistant prosecutors.
To log on to the prosecution's network an authorised user is required to verify his identity by using a special smart card and his own fingerprint, which is scanned into the system and compared to the fingerprints of authorized users stored in the prosecution's database. A private key number identifies each authorized user.
Meanwhile, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry launched seven e-government services and its new Arabic/English website and portal based on a Microsoft platform.
Abdul Rahman Al Mutaiwee, director general, was quoted by the Gulf News as saying that e-services were on offer to over 60,000 members, and include the issuance of certificates of origin, legal and arbitration services, commercial directory information, booking of chamber facilities, viewing and updating membership profiles, library and news and commercial events.
Mutaiwee said members will be able to submit applications for certificates of origin online, follow them up and obtain first hand information on procedures, data and fees of each submission.
He explained that the fees can be paid online once the payment gateway of the e-government portal is completed, which will save time and effort for both sides the citizen and the employees – Albawaba.com
