Dubai Trade announces E-Services Excellence Award
Initiative to boost electronic service adoption in trade
Dubai Trade, the end-to-end-online service provider and trade facilitator under Dubai World, launched a unique initiative, the annual Dubai Trade E-Services Excellence Award, to encourage adoption of electronic services and its usage. The award, first of its kind in the region, is in line with the leading e-service provider’s commitment to promote online services as the means to enhance speed and efficiency of trade flow.
The annual award, given to the best performer in e-service adoption, will feature a new theme every year targeting a particular service.
The inaugural award based on global marine terminal operator DP World’s e-Token service - Dubai Trade E-Services Excellence Award – e-Token 2008 – was given to Al Mashaweer Transport, leading Dubai-based transport clearing and forwarding company, in recognition of its advanced usage of the services. Khalid Abdulla, Director of Al Mashaweer Transport, received it during the LOG.LEO Awards ceremony at Westin Dubai Hotel on Sunday, Nov.30.
“This is an important initiative we have launched this year,” Mahmood Al Bastaki, Director of Dubai Trade, said. “This is the first time such an award is being introduced in the region, which reflects our efforts to come up with innovative ideas. Our online services have impacted the efficiency of the supply chain in a big way, prompting us to come up with a novel motivational step that will encourage more services to be converted onto the electronic platform. A prestigious annual award will be an added incentive,” Al Bastaki added.
Khalid Abdulla, Director of Al Mashasweer Transport, said: “Dubai Trade’s E-Services Excellence Award is a praiseworthy initiative to encourage the usage of electronic services. We are honoured by this recognition, which is an inspiration for us to step up our performance. Dubai Trade has made a benchmark in the quality of online services and this award is another example of its commitment to Dubai’s trading community.”
E-Token, a DP World online service provided by Dubai Trade, is a gate pass permit for the containerised cargo which allows transportation companies (haulers) to pre-book their time of preference to access the ports for picking up or delivering containers. The service eliminates the need of physical visit to the documentation centres to get the token over the counters.
The LOG LEO Awards ceremony, hosted by LOG Middle East, leading freight magazine, and co-sponsored by DP World, was attended by diplomats, corporate leaders and other dignitaries, including His Excellency Johann-Adolf Cohausz, German Consul General, Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of DP World – UAE Region.
The E-Services Excellence Award is the latest in a series of steps Dubai Trade has taken in recent times to enhance the efficiency of Dubai’s trade flow.
World Bank in September 2008 recognised Dubai Trade’s data report as a significant factor in the UAE’s improved ranking in the revised ‘Doing Business Report’ for 2008 and the latest report for 2009. The report submitted by Dubai Trade led the World Bank Doing Business team to modify the UAE’s ranking in the ‘Trading Across Borders’ category from 24 in 2008 to 14 in 2009. This boosted UAE’s overall ranking in ‘Ease of Doing Business’ for 2009 by 22 positions, from 68 in the 2008 report to 46 in 2009.
The data provided export and import procedures, timelines and costs. The World Bank praised the report’s utmost quality.
