The construction boom in Dubai has led to an unprecedented demand for wood and woodworking products, transforming the city into one of the major wood consumers in the Middle East region. Dubai’s wood industry has been growing at an exponential pace, with imports registering a remarkable jump of 32 per cent in 2004 over the previous year.
While 49 per cent of total wood imports were re-exported in 2003, only 38 per cent of the imports were re-exported in 2004, indicating that much of the imports were consumed locally. Analysts have attributed this significant rise in local wood consumption to the surge in demand for wood and wood-based products from Dubai’s booming construction sector.
Dubai has emerged as the world’s most exciting construction industry, with a number of major projects coming up in the city, such as The Palm, The World and Dubai Waterfront. The construction of Burj Dubai, proposed to be the tallest building in the world, is also currently proceeding at a rapid pace. More importantly, the city has been witnessing large-scale construction of residential and commercial complexes, in addition to business zones, luxury hotels and shopping malls.
Industry-watchers suggest the burgeoning market for woodworking and wood-related products in Dubai will receive further boost with the introduction of Dubai Woodshow 2006, the only dedicated wood and wood machinery exhibition in the Middle East.
“Besides being the financial, business and tourist hub of the Middle East, Dubai is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Nowhere is this growth more reflected than in the city’s booming construction sector. The frenetic pace of construction activity has triggered an unprecedented demand for wood and wood-related products, transforming Dubai into a major wood importer,” said Dawood Al Shezawi, Managing Director of Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions, the organizers of Dubai Woodshow 2006. “Furthermore, Dubai’s strategic location and excellent connectivity, not to mention its world-class logistics capabilities, have combined to make the city a major re-exporter of wood and wood-related products, serving the wood requirements of countries in the Arab world and beyond.”
An international trade fair focusing on the wood and wood machinery markets of the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe, Dubai Woodshow 2006 offers exhibitors a platform to showcase top-quality wood products and wood machinery, while providing them an opportunity to establish profitable business relationships. Exhibitors from more than 40 countries are expected to participate in the show, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from April 10-12, 2006.
“Dubai Woodshow 2006 offers the perfect forum for all industry players to tap the rapidly growing wood market in Dubai and elsewhere in the region. The event will feature a comprehensive display of advanced wood machinery and woodworking products, while allowing participants to stay updated on the latest industry developments and form strategic business partnerships. Dubai Woodshow is the only specialized show in the Middle East that brings together manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and traders, giving them direct access to key decision-makers involved in the wood industry,” Al Shezawi said.
Dubai Woodshow 2006 is being supported by international associations and chambers, industry councils and trade promotion councils, including Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Further, to ensure effective promotion for the show internationally, the exhibition has sales agents in Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa, Spain, and Taiwan.
