Dubai World companies share experience, best practices in construction
Group Internal Audit brings together business units to discuss best practise & lessons learned in overcoming challenges
Development, project and technical managers, contracts and commercial managers, legal department heads, CEOs and CFOs from major Dubai World real estate business units came together this Thursday (April 17, 2008) to share best practices and lessons learned in construction at a gathering organised by Group Internal Audit of Dubai World.
CEOs from Nakheel, Limitless DMCC, Dubai World’s lead master planners and developers, and the Managing Director of Trakhees – PCFC, the construction and development licensing authority, discussed their experiences in dealing with urban development projects on a massive scale, and the challenges faced by companies in world-class construction.
Mr. Farid Mohammed Ahmed, Secretary-General Dubai World, said:
“As one of the world’s leading global companies, Dubai World faces unique challenges, which need to be continually addressed and overcome in an equally unique manner. The speed of business in today’s world dictates that we move at lighting speed, and so it is essential that we are not pre-occupied with ‘reinventing the wheel’ when it comes to finding solutions to issues which are common to our business.”
“I commend the efforts of Group Internal Audit in bringing us together to invaluably add to the group’s collective intelligence and know-how,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. AbdulQader Obaid Ali, Director Business Excellence and Group Internal Audit said:
“It is vital for us to learn from the experience gained by our sister concerns in overcoming the hurdles that lie ahead in the path towards achieving excellence. Sharing best practices and lessons is just one of the ways Dubai World makes use of the synergy that results from the close cooperation between its various companies.”
“The aim of a gathering such as this is to combine the individual know-how of dealing with certain situations for the benefit of the group as a whole,” he added.
The programme included a panel discussion on “Forms of Construction Contracts in Dubai World” moderated by Mr. AbdulQader Obaid, in which contracts and commercial engineers for Nakheel, Nakheel Investments, Palm Jebel Ali, Trakhees, DMCC and Limitless took part.
