Held on the sidelines of the upcoming Dubai World Cup, the ninth edition of the annual BurJuman International Millinery Exhibition is being celebrated as an exclusive gathering of some of the top milliners from around the world. The eleven-day exhibition turns BurJuman, the renowned fashion hotspot in Dubai, into an avenue to find exceptional and exquisite milliner items.
With a stunning display of over 500 exquisite hats, headpieces and accessories, the event serves as a rare opportunity that helps race goers prepare fashionable ensemble for the Dubai World Cup, the world’s richest horserace. According to Debbie Aldonza from UK, “This exhibition is great for race enthusiasts like me. It is quite difficult to find the absolute hat for the Dubai World Cup yet I can see many choices here that are just fitting for such a chic and glamorous social event.”
Hilda Oomen, from India, who was also on the look for the perfect headpiece said, “It is amazing to see a lot of beautiful hats and headpieces all in one place. The city has a number of shopping malls but there is nothing like this. I’m so glad I came here to BurJuman. I know that I will be able to find in this exhibition the hat that will complement my style and personality.”
The BurJuman International Millinery Exhibition showcases the works of some of the world’s talented milliners including Valerie Corona, Philip Wright, Marilena Romeo, Louise Macdonald, Louise Harrison, Christiane Edmondson and Catherine Povey. These creative designers of hats, headpieces and accessories are present at the exhibition, and very much on-hand in providing guidance to the visitors on how to choose the right headgear for them. As the Somalian exhibition visitor, Ayan Ismail, shares, “I get practical and wonderful tips from the designers who are participating in this exhibition. They offer customers the proper ways of choosing the headgear. Shopping for a hat can be confusing for me, and so I sincerely appreciate their gesture to be present here and assist.”
The millinery exhibition delights not only the race enthusiasts but is also a crowd-puller. BurJuman shoppers Darren Racoma and Miles Getubig, both Filipino, express in excitement, “We’re just shopping around then we got curious of what’s in this exhibition. Apparently, it’s a hat exhibition that allows everyone to experience a glimpse of glamour at the Dubai World Cup. We’re happy that even if we’re not attending, we could try on and take pictures of us wearing gorgeous hats and headpieces.”
Mahek Minhaz from Pakistan adds, “This event is out of the ordinary. Aside from the excellent array of hats, it also gives the chance for any one to get fashion and hair styling tips from experts. It’s simply amazing!” A new attraction at this year’s exhibition was the Style Consultancy, a style lounge created in partnership with globally renowned fashion magazine Grazia. Shoppers received make-up tips from Giorgio Armani Cosmetics, and hair styling tips from Wella Koleston, Wellaflex, and Braun.
While the women enjoy the one-of-a-kind exhibition, children also adore the charming hats and headpieces. Romana Faisal, an eight-year old, savours the moment when she gets to try the hats on, and utters, “I like it very much. These are very nice hats.” Russian eight-year old Daria Veshnyakova, concludes, “These hats make me pretty.”
The BurJuman International Milliner Exhibition is running at the area opposite Saks Fifth Avenue, Level 1, from 10am to 10pm until March 27th.
