Dubai’s Crown Prince and UAE’s Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum will honor on Wednesday the winners of Dubai’s international Quran Award.

The founder and patron of the annual award Sheikh Mohammad will mark the conclusion of the annual event in a closing ceremony to be held at Zabeel Mosque in Dubai, Khaleej Times reported.

According to the Dubai-based paper, this year's program of the award began on the first day of Ramadan with lectures delivered by prominent Muslim scholars from all over the world.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohammad will also award Alija Izetbegovic, the former president of Bosnia Herzegovina with a cash prize of Dh1 million, for being the winner of the Islamic Personality of the Year of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.

Dr Izetbegovic will receive the prize and the award shield from Gen. Shaikh Mohammed and deliver a lecture at the ceremony, said the daily.

And those securing the top three positions will receive Dh250,000, Dh150,000 and Dh100,000 respectively.

Ibrahim Bu Melha, Dubai Attorney-General and Chairman of the award's organizing committee, has said that this year's closing ceremony will be unusual in that it will be held in the courtyard of Zabeel Mosque with the decorated and illuminated mosque providing the backdrop. "The idea of holding the ceremony in front of a mosque reflects the spirit of Ramadan and highlights the nature of the award," Bu Melha said – Albawaba.com
