The Dubai Aluminium Company DUBAL, one of the largest quality aluminium producers in the world, has already achieved 24% nationalization following its independent in-house efforts including through schemes such as the Graduate Trainee Programme
During 2006, a total of 45 trainees were recruited through the Graduate Trainee Programme. This was against 32 in 2005.
The aluminium giant will showcase the success of such efforts to attract more UAE nationals under its fold including through the Graduate Trainee Programme and other similar courses at the upcoming Careers UAE 2007 exhibition in Dubai.
DUBAL’s move is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the UAE Minister for Finance and Industry, and Chairman of DUBAL, and his guidance in recruiting and developing a stronger national workforce in the UAE in general and at DUBAL in particular.
Mr. Ibrahim Nasser, General Manager, Human Resources and Organization Effectiveness Department, DUBAL, said: “This year DUBAL will showcase the benefits of its various programmes, specially charted for the UAE national graduates to serve the company. A total of 6 staff members from DUBAL will be at the stand (Z-D1 Zabeel Hall) to suggest and offer advice on the special programmes for UAE nationals.”
“DUBAL already offers several training programmes including the Graduate Trainee Programme for fresh UAE national graduates who have the chance to become one of DUBAL’s first line supervisors after completing the 18-month on-the-job training programme,” pointed out Mr. Nasser.
DUBAL’s training programme for fresh graduates enables the trainees to reach a specific level of supervisory capability, increase the management & the technical skills through special courses, provide workforce experience and enable the trainees to reach the competency level of performing the duties of a target position.
One such proud employee at DUBAL who came through the programme is Ms. Noora Abbas. “This programme helps to smoothen the transition from university life to a broad-based career. I have started with DUBAL as a graduate trainee, and took the career development plan. Now I am a network engineer in the IT department,” said Ms. Abbas.
Another staff member Mr. Yousuf Janki said: “The program aims to strengthen the graduate trainees’ management and leadership skills for the achievement of their future departmental and personal goals.”
The Graduate Trainee Programme targets higher diploma, Bachelor and Masters degree-holders in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Metallurgy, Material Science, Account & Finance and Business Administration.
Mr. Nasser said: “DUBAL’s consistent efforts towards job creation for UAE nationals through training programmes will be highlighted at Careers UAE 2007. This is one of the key reasons DUBAL is rated among the best companies in the region in nationalization measures.”
“We are optimistic this year’s Careers UAE will prove beneficial to many fresh UAE graduate nationals in choosing their career in DUBAL and contribute towards national growth,” concluded Mr. Nasser.
The Careers UAE 2007 is scheduled to be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 13-15, 2007.
