DWE working with Dubai School of Government’s Gender and Public Policy Program

Dubai Women Establishment (DWE) announced that it will collaborate with the Dubai School of Government’s Gender and Public Policy Program as knowledge partners for DWE’s Second Arab Women Leadership Forum, for the second consecutive year.  DWE’s annual flagship forum is due to take place on January 12-13, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, the two-day forum will focus on the theme, “Women’s leadership in organizations: Towards new conceptions of work-life balance,” and will be led by Her Highness Sheikha Manal Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment and wife of H.H Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

“DWE is very pleased to once again be working with Dubai School of Government’s Gender and Public Policy Program as knowledge partners towards exploring organizational and government policies affecting work-life balance and finding effective solutions towards closing the gender gap in leadership in the Arab world,” says Aisha Al Suwaidi, Director of DWE Women Leadership Development Department.

“In light of the current state of the global economy, it has become imperative to improve organizational effectiveness in order to maintain a balance between work and home life. This year’s forum will focus on the issue of work-life balance and organizational and government policies affecting the equilibrium between family and work,” added Al Suwaidi.  “As this is a challenge faced by women all over the world, the forum will explore success stories of tried and tested innovative governmental and organizational policies from different countries.  In addition, a variety of important personal and individual constraints and over-arching issues that have a bearing on the successful attainment of work-life balance will also be a key focus of the forum,” she continued.

The Dubai School of Government’s Gender and Public Policy Program aims to contribute to the academic scholarship on gender and public policy in the Arab world while simultaneously incorporating gender perspectives in the training and education of leaders taught at the Dubai School of Government. “Our partnership with the Dubai Women’s Establishment reaffirms our commitment to research and training on gender and public policy in the region today,” said Tarek Yousef, Dean of Dubai School of Government.

 “The Dubai School of Government’s Gender and Public Policy program is proud to collaborate with the DWE as a knowledge partner on the Second Arab Women Leadership Forum to explore the constraints and challenges that women face in organizations, and to explore the interventions that allow for women, men, and families to strike a positive balance between home and work life. We are confident that this Forum will provide important perspectives on an array of challenges regarding Arab women’s leadership in organizations,” added Yousef.

“The annual Arab Women Leadership Forum is a cornerstone DWE event that supports our mandate to actively engage UAE women in the country’s development process. The Arab Women Leadership Forum supports DWE’s ongoing consultation with sovereign and legislative bodies in the development of policies and support services that help to remove the barriers between caring for a family and progressing in a professional environment.  By engaging women with the concept of structured career paths, education and training, DWE helps working Emirati women to progress to more senior, value-added roles and develop the confidence and self-awareness to evolve in this modern, fast-growing economy,”  added Al Suwaidi.

The Second Arab Women Leadership Forum will feature a series of pertinent and informative debates and panel discussions, providing participants with a unique platform to interact and network with distinguished speakers and leading intellectuals in the field of women’s issues and gender relations.
