e-TQM College, the pioneering e-learning institution specialized in offering Total Quality Management Education, will be hosting an international conference to examine the strategic value of the Six Sigma approach in creating organisational excellence, being held from March 28-29, 2006 in Dubai.

The two-day conference titled “Organisational Excellence through Six Sigma Approach” which is taking place at the Dubai Police Officers Club will also feature breakout workshop sessions on various aspects of Six Sigma. The event is being organised as a part of e-TQM College’s annual event.
Leading international quality gurus, thinkers and academicians in TQM, Business Management and Customer Relationship Management (CRM), who are part of the advisory board of the college, are participating in the conference. They will debate on the various aspects of the Six Sigma Approach as a key ingredient for organisations who wish to excel in today’s ultra competitive environment. Members from various Governmental Organisations, Public Sector organisations and the private sector from all over the Arab world are attending the conference.
“In today’s competitive business environment, a growing number of organizations are beginning to realize the full implications of Six Sigma in accelerating corporate strategy and achieving organizational excellence,” says Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Vice President,
e-TQM College. “As a methodology devised to manage process variations that cause defects and to systematically work towards eliminating those defects, the Six Sigma Approach plays a key role as it defines performance, reliability and value of an organisation. Therefore, it is vital for organizations to understand the key ingredients of successful six sigma implementations.”

“e-TQM College has pioneered the concept of quality management in the Arab World, and the two-day conference is bringing into focus the fundamental building blocks of the TQM movement” continued Dr. Al Awar. “As organisations in the Arab world are keen on realizing global ambitions, it is important that they fully understand the implications of organizational efficiency and quality as a key differentiator on their service proposition.”

Six Sigma approach was pioneered by Bill Smith, a former Vice President and Senior Quality Assurance Manager for the Land Mobile Products Sector of Motorola in 1986. Motorola has reportedly saved over US$ 17 billion by implementing Six Sigma till date.  The Six Sigma approach gained wide acceptance after GE, one of the early adopters achieved benefits of US$ 300 million, during first year of its application. Major corporations such as Ford, Microsoft, Caterpillar, Raytheon, Siemens, Merrill Lynch and 3M among many others are reported to have benefited from implementing Six Sigma at various levels.
The conference, will also cover various aspects of Six Sigma centred on themes of Competitiveness, Reality, Leadership and Management Support, Tools and Techniques, Team Dynamics, Deployment and Performance Measurement and Cultural Change. During the two days, four workshops will be held titled, “Strategic imperative of organizational excellence through six sigma approach”, “Organizational excellence through six sigma approach in healthcare”. “Organizational excellence through six sigma approach in education, and “Organizational excellence through six sigma approach in public sector” respectively.
