Emirates Driving Institute (EDI) has become the first driver training institute in Dubai to acquire advanced driving simulators which can recreate authentic real-life driving situations for trainees. These computerised driver training aids from Germany can simulate all sorts of driving situations and weather conditions and are widely acknowledged as the best in the world.

“Simulator training allows trainees to learn to handle real life emergencies within the safety of the institute’s training rooms,” said Amer Ahmed Belhasa, managing director, EDI.

In addition, these machines are designed to throw up unexpected situations similar to those that occur in real traffic on the roads, like other motorists changing lanes without signalling braking suddenly. “Such situations cannot be integrated into conventional training programs due to the risk factor, but simulator training eliminates all risk, making the training highly effective and totally safe,” Amer Ahmed Belhasa added.

The driving education program offered by the simulator covers all aspects of driving, right from adjusting mirrors and shifting gears to negotiating roundabouts and changing lanes. A Special Drives program includes cross country drives, use of navigation systems and motorway driving with conditions similar to that on Sheikh Zayed Road. The simulator can also recreate different weather and sight conditions like rain, fog and driving in the dark.

Trainees can even watch replays of driver errors. This allows them to review their mistakes and repeat the exercise until all errors are eliminated.
