Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher is to visit Britain and Syria on Wednesday, it was announced in Cairo Tuesday.

A press statement issued at the Egyptian foreign ministry said Maher would meet with British prime minister Tony Blair, the secretary of state for foreign and commonwealth affairs Jack Straw, the prime minister's political adviser and members of the House of Commons, according to the Kuwait News Agency.

The next part of Maher’s tour would take him to the Syrian capital of Damascus, for a one-day visit, during which he is expected to hold talks with Syrian officials concerning the current situation in the Middle East region.

Maher would then head for the South African city of Durban next Sunday to lead Egypt’s delegation to the African summit, scheduled to be held there from July 8-10, on behalf of President Hosni Mubarak, KUNA added. (Albawaba.com)
