Egypt Announces Eradication of TB

The Egyptian Minister of Health, Ismael Sallam has said that the country has successfully put Tuberculosis to extinction, and was internatioanally acknowleged for the achievement, according to the Cairo-based Al Ahram daily. 

Sallam’s remarks came Saturday at the inauguration ceremony of new health projects in north Cairo, at a cost of 15 million pounds.  

“Egypt secured three days ago a certificate confirming that it has, among other countries, eradicated Tuberculosis in addition to treating this epidemic successfully at a rate of 45 percent, a ratio achieved only by developed countries,” he said. 

The ministry is currently organizing intensified health campaigns to combat infectious diseases, which usually spread in rural areas. The ministry provides many free medical services including the provision of Insulin for the diabetic poor people, Al Ahram said – Albawaba.com
