Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher has announced that his country has been in continuous contact with the US, the EU, and various other parties to discuss ways to tackle the difficulties faced by the entire world in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in the US, according to the daily Al Gomhuria.

“The contacts focus on condemning terrorism and confirming Egypt’s stance regarding the way to deal with such acts, which should be consistent with international legitimacy and world order, and not be hasty,” said Maher.

Responding to questions by reporters on Monday, Maher said, “Egypt is focusing its contacts with other countries on the current circumstances in Palestine, and on Israeli attempts to benefit from the recent attacks in the US in order to defame Arabs and Muslims so as to escalate its aggression against the Palestinians.”

“The visit made by Minister of Information Safwat Al Sharif to Libya comes as no surprise, as contacts between the two countries have been ongoing. President Mubarak decided to send a delegation to Libya to continue bilateral consultations after he had a telephone conversation with Libyan leader Moammer Khadhafi,” added Maher.

Maher denied as baseless reports implicating Libya in the latest terrorist attacks in the US, and said that the Libyan stance regarding this matter was clearly one of condemnation.

“The list of countries sponsoring terrorism, which includes some Arab countries, was prepared by the US alone and no other countries were committed to it,” added the minister, indicating that Egypt had been cooperating with other Arab countries in confronting terrorism.

“We are aware of the organizations which launch terrorist attacks and the organizations which carry out legitimate actions without the need for preparing lists. This is not our way,” concluded Maher - Albawaba.com
