Presidential adviser Mostafa Hegazy said on Monday the final draft of Egypt's constitution is expected to be issued on 3 December and would be put to referendum by end of the month or the beginning of January.

Presidential elections may take place before the summer, he added.

In remarks on the sidelines of Cairo's Euromoney conference, Hegazy said: “Everyone working on the roadmap is serious about finishing it properly.”

Regarding the role of political Islam in Egypt's future, Hegazy said: “I believe the term of political Islam is inaccurate. The correct understanding of Islam will directly affect relations between Islam and politics in a way that will not get us back to extremist practices in applying the wrong interpretation of Islam.”

Asked about Egypt's current international relations prospects, Hegazy added: “I think current political trends may lead to more balanced forces in the region. We look forward to equal partnerships with other countries.”
