Egypt to Host COMESA Summit Late May

Egypt will host the 6th summit of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) on May 22nd.  

Egypt will take over the session's chairmanship from Mauritius during the summit which will be inaugurated by President Hosni Mubarak, reported Egypt on line.  

The gathering's foreign ministers will meet on May 19-20 to arrange for the summit's agenda.  

On the sideline of the summit, a mini-economic forum will be held with the participation of businessmen of the (COMESA) members who will debate issues of mutual interest and explore possible fields of cooperation such as construction, transport and Information Technology (IT).  

Participants will also discuss means of enhancing trade exchange among member states especially ways to increase Egyptian exports to the COMESA.  

Egyptian exports to COMESA were estimated at $49 million last year, said the news service.  

Discussions will also cover reports by the (COMESA) Secretariat General on the Free Trade Area that has been put into force since October.
