Egypt jails policemen and doctor for torturing prisoners to death

Egypt's top court has jailed 14 policemen and a doctor for torturing two prisoners in 2006 which resulted in their deaths, AFP has reported.

A colonel was jailed for three years, 13 policemen were sentenced to a year each, and a doctor was also sentenced for a year, according to a judicial official.

They were jailed "for torturing to death two criminals who were in their custody in 2006", the official said.

It is not yet clear if the jail terms have already been served since the incident occurred almost ten years ago.
