Egypt Offers Generous Discounts on Internal Flights for Foreigners

The Egyptian Minister of Transportation Ibrahim Al Demairi told reporters after he inaugurated the new passenger building at Luxur airport that he had decided to give a 40 percent discount on internal flights to foreigners and 15 percent to Egyptians as of Saturday, local press reports said.  

The new Luxur airport building has been provided with all equipment necessary to cope with 2.5 million tourists every year. 

The minister has also decided in coordination with the ministry of youth to organize internal trips by train for school and university students to see the tourist landmarks of he country nationwide at a 50 percent discount on the railway second class tickets.  

“These actions have come in response to the instructions of President [Hosni] Mubarak in his speech before the parliamentary committee” added the minister, indicating that his ministry’s plan aimed at developing the tourist airports nationwide. This, the minister says, has come in view of the recession which hit the entire world and in order to encounter the negative impacts on the Egyptian economy and tourist revenues.
