Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Oman's Sultan Qaboos called upon Israelis and Palestinians Saturday to end the "vicious circle of violence", Egypt's information minister said.

The two leaders held morning talks at the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh prior to Qaboos returning home. The sultan had been on a private visit to the Red Sea coast since May 21, the official agency MENA said.

They emphasized that "Israeli incursions into Palestinian territories, acts of violence and murder will bring neither security nor stability", and that "violence provokes counter-violence", Information Minister Mohammed Safwat El-Sherif said, quoted by MENA.

Mubarak and Qaboos reviewed developments in the territories and reaffirmed the need to base any future peace plan on "UN resolutions and the principle of land for peace", Safwat added. (Albawaba.com)
