Egypt welcomed on Sunday the ceasefire agreement reached between Eritrea and Ethiopia in Algeria earlier Sunday that ended hostilities between the two east African nations since 1998, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Egyptian foreign minister Amr Moussa told reporters that the agreement was an "important step" towards the establishment of peace between the two nations.
He stressed Egypt's confidence the deal would contribute in the restoration of peace, stability and security in the horn of Africa region and opens the gate for the two countries to mobilize efforts in the service of bilateral social and economic development.
Moussa hailed efforts exerted by Algeria, current chairman of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), to reach this agreement, said KUNA - Albawaba.com
