An Egyptian youth has managed to break through the e-cards networks and use their balances to purchase the goods he needs through the web, reported the local press.
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior Information and Documentation Department officers observed during their monitoring of illegal web usage operations that one of the sites was concluding deals with foreign companies outside Egypt using a number of credit cards. This has aroused the officers’ suspicion, said the reports.
Two weeks ago a transaction for purchasing equipment and shipping them to Moharram Beih post office from one of the American computer companies was detected on one of the websites. On reviewing the serial numbers of the credit cards used for payment, the officers discovered that the owner of the card resides in Embabah but he appeared to know nothing about the deal.
On arresting the youth involved in the deal, forty credit cards used for purchasing goods from international companies were found with him.
In a previous incident, the authorities arrested an engineer who tried to blackmail a soft drink company through the internet.
