The Egyptian cabinet on Saturday discussed the country’s preparations to handle global and regional developments, as an imminent war on terrorism by a US-led international coalition began to appear more inevitable, according to the daily Al Ahram.
Headed by Prime Minister Atef Ebeid, the meeting came up with certain follow-up political, economic and security mechanisms to deal with the war's consequences on the country's various sectors.
Although the cabinet condemned terrorism of all forms, it reiterated Egypt’s position regarding the proposed US-led anti-terrorism coalition, as spelled out by President Hosni Mubarak after the September 11 terrorist attacks on US vital sites.
Mubarak has shown reservations over the coalition, saying such a move would divide the world into two camps.
Egypt and other Arab countries want evidence that the parties accused of the attacks are actually involved, especially as doubts have been cast on the results of the US investigations into the horrific acts.
The president has said that Egypt had faced similar terrorist attacks, but had dealt with the issue in accordance with the law and Constitution, not revenge-motivated retaliation.
The cabinet also supported the president’s call for an international conference to counter terrorism, added the daily - Albawaba.com
