Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher left Cairo on Wednesday for Jordan for talks with Jordanian King Abdullah II on the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, the official MENA news agency said.

Maher told reporters before his departure that his talks with Jordanian officials "come within the context of efforts made by the two countries to contain the deteriorating situation in the region."

Maher's visit to Jordan came one day after U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell paid a short visit to Egypt. (Albawaba.com)
