Egypt’s government set the groundwork for its plans in the coming year, in recently released statements. Minister of Foreign Trade Youssef Boutros Ghali indicated that his ministry would follow a four-pronged approach in its plans to boost the economy.
The plan calls for stimulating exports to cut the deficit in the balance of trade, upgrading the money market by drawing investments in the stock exchange, providing data to achieve transparency and developing small and medium industries.
Transport Minister Ibrahim Demiri conveyed that, " The 2002-2007 five-year plan aims at alleviating the burden on the state budget adding that it includes a comprehensive plan for upgrading the infrastructure of the nation's railways and assuring the safe operation of various means of transportation."
Egypt’s Tourism Minister, Mamdouh El-Beltagi contended that his ministry's work plan aims mainly at strengthening world markets in which to promote tourism to Egypt. International marketing and media will be used to deliver the message.
Meanwhile, Egypt and Iraq have agreed to develop bilateral cooperation in various industrial, trade and technical areas. This was reached in conclusion of works of a joint committee for economic co-operation in Baghdad. Iraqi Trade Minister Mohammed Mehdi Saleh was quoted by INA as saying the value of trade between the two countries reached $1.7 billion this year. (www.albawaba.com)
