The fifth round of meetings by the Higher Egyptian-Lebanese Joint Committee begins on Sunday under the chairmanship of the Egyptian Premier Atef Ebeid and his Lebanese counterpart, Rafiq Al Hariri, according to Al Ahram newspaper.
According to the Arabic daily, the committee will discuss a number of bilateral and regional issues including developments in the Middle East peace process and the enhancement of economic and commercial ties. The committee will also push forward the free trade agreement signed between Egypt and Lebanon in 1998.
The preparatory committee started its meetings in Cairo on Saturday to prepare the agreements to be signed at the conclusion of the higher joint committee meetings. These include three memos of understanding in the pharmaceutical, marketing and exhibition sectors in addition to an implementation program in the educational and cultural fields.
The higher committee will discuss the possibility of establishing a joint private sector company for marketing their products abroad. It will also discuss the situation of Egyptian workers in Lebanon through a consular joint committee that is to meet every year for follow-up. Discussions will also include the actions to be taken to implement the agreements and documents signed between Egypt and Lebanon in the fields of industry, health, petrol, gas, housing, utilities and culture – Albawaba.com
