An Egyptian official called Wednesday for the expansion of cooperation between Tehran and Cairo in the field of tourism, reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.

The head of Egypt's interest section in Tehran, Mohammad Rafa'ah Al Tahtawi, said his country was willing to cooperate with Iran in the field of tourism and exchanges of related experiences.

He told IRNA that the most suitable avenue in this regard was to spotlight Islamic culture and civilization and promote the tourism industry.

His remarks came on the threshold of a meeting in Tehran of tourism ministers of Islamic states to be held from August 27-28.

He said expansion of tourism would serve to generate more revenues, expand cultural ties and introduce various cultures and civilizations to other countries.

The Egyptian official said a lack of proper publicity work and a shortage of tourist facilities in Muslim states were among the barriers to attracting tourists.

Unfortunately, he said, no desirable step had been taken so far to promote tourist attractions in Muslim states.

He called on Muslim countries to eliminate their shortcomings in the fields of airport, banking and medical facilities, and to guarantee the security of tourists.

He said there were abundant tourist attractions in Iran.

Through well-calculated plans and provision of necessary facilities, Iran can attract more Muslim tourists, he concluded – Albawaba.com
