Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov will have talks Wednesday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak at the Sharm el Sheikh resort Wednesday, Egypt's Foreign Minister Amr Moussa announced.

The discussions will primarily be on the Middle East peace process, of which Russia is co-sponsor with the United States, and in which Egypt, which signed a peace deal with Israel in 1979, plays the role of intermediary, Moussa said after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Tuesday.

The situation of Iraq, which has been under United Nations sanctions since its invasion of Kuwait in 1990, will also be on the agenda, Moussa added.

Ivanov visited Baghdad Monday and Tuesday and said he favored an "equitable resolution" of the Iraqi question.

"Russia calls for a halt to interference in the internal affairs of Iraq and the cancellation of the aerial exclusion zones" in force in the north and south of the country, he added.

The minister is due in Israel Wednesday, in Jordan Thursday and then Kuwait Saturday, heading on to Saudi Arabia the same day.

He is due to leave Riyadh for Moscow late Sunday – CAIRO (AFP)
