Egyptian Trade Expo Opened in Mecca

The 11th Egyptian Products Exhibition was opened in Mecca on Thursday, reported the the official Saudi News Agency (SPA). 

More than 160 Egyptian companies are participating in the show which will remain open until Oct 26, 2001. 

The year 1990 was a turning point in commercial relations when the two countries signed an agreement regulating cooperation in the economic, commercial and investment sectors. 

A protocol was added to this agreement covering 134 commodities which the two sides agreed to exempt from duties, with 61 commodities for the Saudi side and 73 for the Egyptian side. 

The volume of trade between the two countries rose from EP579 million in the year 1989 to EP2,641 billion in the year 2000 (EP=$ 0.23) – Albawaba.com
