Egypt\'s Alexandria Port Gets Priority for Development

Egypt's transportation ministry would develop a number of Egyptian ports including the ports of Alexandria, Suez, the Middle East reported in its weekly issue. 

The paper quoted Ibrahim Al Domeiry, the Egyptian minister of transport, as saying he "will start with Alexandria Port, because it is the oldest and biggest in the country. 

The minister noted that the total capital outlay expected to be spent on the Alexandria Port's development is estimated at E£1.2 billion.  

He added that the volume of freight in the port is 54 million tons annually and that about 60,000 tourists arrive there each year, the weekly said, noting that the estimated number is expected soar to two million tourists once better facilities are installed -- Albawaba.com
