Eight Daesh or so-called Islamic State (IS) fighters were killed during a pre-dawn clash with a pro-government militia in the Nazyan district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said Monday.

Two members of the local uprising were also killed and another two wounded in the clash that broke out Monday shortly after 3am, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogayni, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Three Daesh rebels were captured alive during the clash in Morchal locality, he said.

A resident of the area, who wished to go unnamed, said the clash was between gunmen loyal to Wolesi Jirga member Zahir Qadir and Daesh gunmen.

He said there were casualties on both sides, with the uprising members beheading some of the captured IS fighters.

The Daesh outfit has so far said nothing in this regard.
