The Olympic champion (1500 and 5000 meters gold medals in Athens) and four-time champion of the Moroccan world, Hicham El-Guerrouj, confirmed on Monday in Rabat that he will not take part in the World Championship in Helsinki, scheduled to be held from August 6 to August 14.
EMarrakech reports that this is going to be the first time in ten years that the 31-year-old Moroccan athlete misses a world Championships. However, El-Guerrouj has already confirmed that he is going to take part in one more contest, in January 2006, before finally retiring next year.
