The Egyptian team El Zamalek will represent Africa in the IHF Super Globe handball tournament in Doha in May. El Zamalek qualified after beating the Algerian team GS Petroliers Mouloudia Club 28-27 in the African Super Cup in Burkina Faso last week.
Qatar will host the fourth edition of the IHF’s Super Globe Championship from May 17th to 21st. The tournament brings together the continental handball champions of five continents – Europe, Asia, the Americas, Oceania and Africa, plus the Qatari champions Al Sadd.
The Middle East will be represented by three teams; El Zamalek from Egypt, Al Sad from Lebanon who will be representing Asia, besides the host club Al-Sadd from Qatar.
“We are pleased that the Middle East will be represented by three teams in the IHF Super Globe. This tournament will be very attractive for handball fans across the region and will inspire the next generation of Arab handball players,” said Mr. Saadoun Al-Kuwari, Event Director, IHF Super Globe Organising Committee.
El Zamalek has won the Egyptian League 14 times, the Egyptian Cup 11 times, Excellence & Super Cup 6 times, the Arab Cup 2 times, the African Champions League 6 times, Cup Winners Cup 2 times and the African Super Cup 1 time.

In Group A, El Zamalek will meet the Spanish league and European Champions league winners BM Ciudad Real and Pan American winners Unopar Fel Sercomtel from Brazil. In Group B, Al Sadd Club from Qatar will meet AHF Southern Stars from Australia and Al Sad from Lebanon.
The IHF Super Globe was previously played in a five-year cycle in 1997 (Austria) 2002 (Qatar) and 2007 (Egypt). Under the new deal, the Super Globe will be organised annually in Qatar’s state-of-the art facilities from 2010 to 2013.
