Election day in Oman

More than 262,000 Omani citizens are turning out at polling stations throughout the Sultanate on Saturday to cast ballots and decide who will represent them in the Majlis a-Shura’s fifth term. The Majlis new term will commence early next year and will have three year duration.  

 

According to ONA, all the Sultanate’s governorates and wilayats have completed their preparations for this event. The Interior Ministry has set up 95 polling stations to avoid long queues and ease pressure on election staff.  

 

As many as 506 candidates including 15 women, will contest the elections. Initial results will be announced on Saturday.
