The election of the National Council (Senate) new members is taking place Tuesday through the municipal (APC) and provincial (APW) people's assemblies in 46 out of 48 provinces, in accordance with the triennial renewal of half of the council's elected members.

According to APS, President Bouteflika promulgated, on November 10, a presidential decree convening the electoral college made up of APC and APW elected representatives to elect the new Senate members. The operation was postponed in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia, the Interior Ministry said in a statement, while waiting for APC and APW by-elections.

The Senate is made up of 144 seats, two thirds of which (96 seats) go to elected members by direct vote among APC and APW elected representatives, while one third (48 seats) are appointed by the President among national personalities in the scientific, cultural, professional, economic and social fields.
