Turkish citizens living abroad began to vote on Wednesday at polling stations set up at airports and border gates for early general elections scheduled for November 3, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The stations will stay open until late on the official polling day to serve Turks who have been living abroad for over six months, the report said.
Ankara’s strict electoral rules prevent about three million Turks living abroad from voting unless they return to their homeland to do so. Polling stations have been set up, amongst other places, in Istanbul's Ataturk airport, the country's main air hub, and at the Kapikule border gate with Turkey's northwestern neighbor Bulgaria, the preferred entrance point for Turks living abroad.
