The Emirates Aviation College (Aerospace & Academic Studies wing), is the first, authorised institute in the UAE to offer the Aviation English Language Proficiency Test for pilots and air traffic controllers.
By March 2008, they must demonstrate an English language proficiency of Level 4 (Operational), as mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the UN body for civil aviation around the world.
College Vice-Chancellor Mohammed Al Budoor said: “We are very pleased to be the first authorised aviation institute in the UAE to offer this English language proficiency test.
“Civil aviation authorities and airlines across the Middle East, Asia and Africa will now have the opportunity to have their staff tested within the pleasant and safe surroundings of Dubai.”
The college recently signed a contract with sister company, Emirates Airline, whose pilots are required to take the test as part of their licensing by the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
Capt Alan Stealey, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President for Flight Operations, expressed his appreciation to the college for providing the test, adding: “We are very pleased that our pilots, who are required by ICAO to take this test, can conveniently use the college facilities here in Dubai.
“There has been tremendous co-operation between Emirates’ Flight Operations and the college over a very short timescale, in order to rise to the challenge of this regulatory requirement.”

The Emirates Aviation College (Aerospace & Academic Studies) is licensed by the Ministry of Education and offers professional vocational programmes in Aerospace Engineering, Electronics & Computer Engineering, Business Management and Travel &Tourism Management, in addition to short courses in Management and the English language.
The college recognises the importance of providing a sound vocational education structure based on the needs of industry in the UAE, the region and beyond. Students taking this route, on completion of high school or secondary education, can follow a unique path of ‘learning by doing’, acquiring both knowledge and skills that allow them to form a greater understanding of the needs and practices of the work-place environment. This may be in preparation for a career as an aircraft engineer, an IT specialist, a hotel manager or a business entrepreneur.
