Emirates Group Security (CASS) Launches ICAO Management Certified Programme in Dubai

The Centre of Aviation & Security Studies (CASS), the commercial academic arm of Emirates Group Security and the Arab Air Carriers Organisation (AACO), have signed an agreement to jointly host the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Management Certified Programme (AVSEC PM) course in Dubai.

The AVSEC PM course, regarded as one of the most prestigious courses in aviation security, aims to develop management skills and aviation security knowledge. The first classroom session of the 12-week course, co-ordinated and supported by CASS, will be held at the new Emirates Aviation College in Dubai.

Dr. Abdulla Al Hashimi, Divisional Senior Vice President, Emirates Group Security, said: “The AVSEC PM course is an excellent example of high-quality management training which has been tailor-made for professionals working in the aviation industry.  It has been designed specifically to improve management practices focusing on the essential aspect of security.”

He added: “The collaboration between ICAO, AACO and CASS in conducting this course will help improve educational and professional development opportunities for the industry at a regional level. We are delighted to be able to offer this course at our facility in Dubai to cater for the expanding aviation industry in the region and hope it is the first of many involving the three organisations.”

The course, administered by academics from Concordia University of Canada and ICAO practitioners, comprises two weeks of classroom sessions, separated by 10 weeks of distance learning. The first session will take place from 19th-23rd October 2008, with the second session following between 12th-15th January 2009.

Abdul Wahab Teffaha, Secretary General of AACO, commented: “Aviation security has become a foremost priority, equal in its importance to safety. The fundamental premise upon which airlines, airports and the whole civil aviation industry is based is providing safe and secure travel to the public. It is an honour and a privilege to join forces with one of the best airlines in the world, which is also one of the most visionary and advanced companies in the field of aviation.”

Mr Teffaha added: “Emirates is known to use the latest technologies and techniques in all airline domains including aviation security. I believe that working together under the auspices of ICAO and the established knowledge base of Concordia University will facilitate the delivery of an AVSEC course to professionals whose value is unrivalled anywhere in the world. I am confident that the agreement that we have signed with the Centre of Aviation & Security Studies of Emirates Group Security paves the way to future joint activities aimed at furthering the industry's excellent record in security.”

The Centre of Aviation & Security Studies is run in close partnership with several universities world wide and provides high-quality, university-affiliated educational and training programmes.  The centre employs qualified trainers and education consultants who provide client-specific programmes.
