The partnership between Emirates Group Security and Edith Cowan University was established in 2002 and is today recognised as a leading force in global security research.

Presenting the award to the partners, the Hon Julie Bishop, Australia's Federal Minister for Education, Science and Training said: “The BHERT awards demonstrate what can be accomplished when collaboration is meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships are created.”

Dr. Abdulla Al Hashimi, Divisional Senior Vice President, Emirates Group Security, and Professor Nara Srinivasan, Transguard Education Academy jointly received the award.

Dr. Al Hashimi said: “This international project is an important collaboration between educational institutions and businesses to meet today’s challenge of international terrorism and organised crime within the aviation industry.

“One of the main objectives of the project was to improve the human factor within security systems. The combination of education and training ensures a deep understanding of the role of security in facilitating and supporting the business. This knowledge empowers security professionals to use technology, human factors and processes to strike the right balance to effectively safeguard the aviation industry.”

One of the programmes that has benefited Emirates and the industry on the whole is the Diploma in Aviation Security Management which also presents an opportunity of life long learning for staff.

Professor Nara Srinivasan said: “For the past four years, Emirates Group Security has been working very closely with Edith Cowan University to develop specialised security training programmes to ensure that the level of security is improved within Emirates and the industry as a whole. These initiatives have led to the development of Transguard Education Academy.”

This successful collaboration between Emirates Group Security and Transguard Education Academy has been seen by the industry as the benchmark for combining security training and education and bringing aviation security to a higher level.

The programme specialises in the running of security training and education courses in aviation and security control, crisis management and ground handling developed for the Emirates Group, and these courses are now also available to security staff in organisations in Qatar, Oman, the United States and the United Nations World Food Program.-ends

Supported by the Australian Government and Australian Universities, the BHERT awards are organised by the Australian Business Higher Education Roundtable.
